Just 24 minutes ago, a magnitude-4.7 earthquake struck near David, David District, Provincia de Chiriqui, Panama. The tremor was recorded early Thursday morning, October 22, 2026, at 6:38 a.m. local time, at a very shallow depth of 1. km below the surface.
The event was reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, which listed the quake at magnitude 4.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Miramar (pop. 350), located 10 km from the epicenter, and Chiriqui Grande (pop. 1,500), 15 km away.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Punta Pena (pop. 1,200), located 16 km from the epicenter; Bocas del Toro (pop. 5,400), 31 km away; Almirante (pop. 8,700), 36 km away; Changuinola (pop. 18,000), 55 km away; David (pop. 82,000), 76 km away; La Concepcion (pop. 17,700), 78 km away; and Pedregal (pop. 17,400), 81 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if they change and follow up if other significant news about the quake
