An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 occurred just 30 minutes ago, 17 km south of Belovo, Russia, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake struck at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Belovo, Kemerovo Oblast, Russia, early on Saturday morning, October 24th, 2026, at 5:24 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, at magnitude 5.0, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), also at magnitude 5.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the epicentral area. It should not have caused significant damage, apart from objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Novyy Gorodok (pop. 14,500), located 4 km from the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Belovo (pop. 75,800), located 17 km from the epicenter; Guryevsk (pop. 25,000), 23 km away; Polysayevo (pop. 28,000), 37 km away; Kisilevsk
