An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred in the afternoon on Thursday, August 14th, 2025, at 4:34 pm local time near Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental, Northern Mindanao, Philippines, as reported by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a great depth of 527. km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Plaridel (pop. 3,000, 34 km away), Oroquieta (pop. 39,300, 43 km away), Dapitan (pop. 85,200, 58 km away), Dipolog (pop. 93,500, 71 km away), Danao (pop. 20,200, 79 km away), Iligan (pop. 342,600, 79 km away), Ozamiz City (pop. 93,100, 80 km away), Dumaguete (pop. 113,500, 83 km away), and Mantampay (pop. 265,000, 84 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
