A shallow magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported early morning near Monkayo, Davao de Oro, Davao, Philippines.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the quake hit on Thursday, September 18th, 2025, at 2:11 am local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kinablangan (pop. 5,400) located 23 km from the epicenter, Taytayan (pop. 6,900) 24 km away, Cateel (pop. 6,600) 28 km away, Baganga (pop. 10,100) 32 km away, and Bislig (pop. 67,600) 60 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Compostela (pop. 42,600) located 70 km from the epicenter, Manay (pop. 20,300) 71 km away, and Monkayo (pop. 51,400) 71 km away.
