A very shallow magnitude 4.2 earthquake was reported early afternoon near Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
According to The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), the quake hit on Sunday, November 16th, 2025, at 3:59 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 0. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Estero Hondo (pop. 1,600) located 13 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Villa Isabela (pop. 3,900) located 14 km from the epicenter, Luperon (pop. 4,400) 17 km away, and Esperanza (pop. 42,200) 41 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as
