An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred only 4 minutes ago 72 miles southeast of Chignik Lagoon, Alaska, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of miles beneath the epicenter near Chignik Lagoon, Lake and Peninsula, Alaska, USA, early morning on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025, at 5:37 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chignik Lagoon (pop. 78) located 72 miles from the epicenter.

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake near Paphos, Pafos, Cyprus, was reported only 4 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 15.60 km beneath the epicenter in the afternoon on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025, at 4:23 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Emba (pop. 5,500) located 19 km from the epicenter, Paphos (pop. 36,000) 21 km away, Kato Polemidia (pop. 23,200) 41 km away, Limassol (pop. 154,000) 45 km away, Germasogeia (pop. 17,300) 47 km away, and Morfou (pop. 24,100) 49 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Strovolos (pop. 67,900) located 72 km
