An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred only 7 minutes ago 45 km southeast of San Salvador, El Salvador, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 63. km beneath the epicenter near San Salvador, Departamento de San Salvador, El Salvador, after midnight on Saturday, November 29th, 2025, at 12:52 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed it as a magnitude 4.9 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Santiago Nonualco (pop. 9,500) located 25 km from the epicenter, Zacatecoluca (pop. 39,600) 29 km away, San Marcos (pop. 54,600) 42 km away, Ilopango (pop. 38,900) 44 km away, San Salvador (pop. 526,000) 45 km away, Soyapango (pop. 329,700) 46 km away, Delgado (pop. 71,600) 48 km away, and Mejicanos (pop. 160,300) 49 km away.
