An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred in the evening on Tuesday, November 11th, 2025, at 8:25 pm local time near Anchorage, Alaska, USA, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 1 mile. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Tyonek (pop. 170) located 13 miles from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nikiski (pop. 4,500) located 28 miles from the epicenter, Anchorage (pop. 291,200) 33 miles away, Sterling (pop. 5,600) 33 miles away, Ridgeway (pop. 2,000) 35 miles away, Kenai (pop. 7,700) 35 miles away, Soldotna (pop. 4,500) 37 miles away, and Elmendorf Air Force Base (pop. 6,600) 42 miles away.
