At 525 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Mccomb, moving south at 10 mph. HAZARD…Winds in excess of 40 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include… Mccomb, Magnolia, Summit, Smithdale, and Mccomb Airport. This includes Interstate 55 in Mississippi between mile markers 10 and 24.

Small 3.6 quake hits near Carlsbad, Eddy County, New Mexico, USA

Just 6 minutes ago, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Carlsbad, Eddy County, New Mexico, USA. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, at 4:56 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5.8 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.6.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mentone (pop. 19) located 30 miles from the epicenter. In Loving (pop. 1,400, 39 miles away), Pecos (pop. 9,500, 42 miles away), and Carlsbad (pop. 29,000, 49 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
