Just 37 minutes ago, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Penticton, Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, British Columbia, Canada. The tremor was recorded early morning on Saturday, July 19th, 2025, at 4:38 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 3.5 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) at magnitude 3.5, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 3.6.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Summerland (pop. 11,600) located 19 miles from the epicenter, Penticton (pop. 33,800) 20 miles away, Princeton (pop. 2,800) 21 miles away, Okanagan Falls (pop. 2,200) 23 miles away, Peachland (pop. 1,300) 25 miles away, Oliver (pop. 5,300) 29 miles away, West Kelowna (pop. 28,800) 34 miles away, Kelowna (pop. 142,100) 38 miles away, and Osoyoos (pop. 4,500) 40 miles away.
