An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred only 5 minutes ago 14 km southeast of Toulouse, France, France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter near Toulouse, Upper Garonne, Occitanie, France, after midnight on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025, at 12:55 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Escalquens (pop. 6,200) located 1 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Balma (pop. 15,600) located 12 km from the epicenter, Toulouse (pop. 493,500) 14 km away, and Cugnaux (pop. 15,400) 18 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Blagnac (pop. 24,300) located 19 km from the epicenter, Muret (pop. 24,300) 21 km away, Colomiers (pop. 31,400) 21 km away, Tournefeuille (pop. 29,100) 22

Just 6 minutes ago, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Ierapetra, Lasithi, Crete, Greece. The tremor was recorded early morning on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025, at 1:51 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 39. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 6.1 earthquake as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 6.2, The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) at magnitude 6.4, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 6.1, The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 5.9, and The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 6.0.
Generally quakes of this magnitude are recorded by more than one agency and the results can vary, with subsequent reports that come in after the first one often showing more accuracy.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Ierapetra (pop. 12,400) located 114 km from the epicenter, the quake should
