Just 19 minutes ago, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Xam Nua, Houaphan, Laos. The tremor was recorded late at night on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025, at 11:26 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Xam Nua (pop. 46,800) located 44 km from the epicenter, and Hoa Binh (pop. 105,300) 104 km away.

NINH BINH (158.3 km E of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / horizontal (sideways) swinging / 2-5 s : Fil de téléphone pendant qui a bougé avec ressenti de bâtiment qui bouge depuis la chambre d’hôtel (8eme étage) alors que nous étions en position semi-assise dans le lit. 2 personnes a l’avoir ressenti dans cette même chambre avec un bruit mécanique qui se manifestait au même rythme que les balancements  

Lang Thuong, Đống Đa District, Hanoi (158.6 km ENE of epicenter) [Map] / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / single lateral shake / 15-20 s

Mai chau (70.3 km ENE of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / rattling, vibrating / 5-10 s : Légère secousse  

Hoa Binh, Thành Phố Hòa Bình, Hòa Bình Province (104.9 km ENE of epicenter) [Map] / not felt : A friend in Hoa Bin woke up to an earthquake at 5:31 PM German time.  

Hanoi (162.1 km ENE of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / both vertical and horizontal swinging / 5-10 s
