Driven by an increase in wholesale natural gas prices, retail U.S. natural gas prices for every sector have increased so far this year, although the increases are uneven across sectors. In our latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, we expect the 2025 annual average price of natural gas paid by electric power plants to increase by 37% and the price paid by industrial sector customers to increase by 21% compared with the 2024 averages. We forecast that natural gas prices for customers in the commercial and residential sectors will increase by less, at 4% each.

Applications are invited for a joint tenure-track Assistant Professor position at the University of Maine (UMaine) in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (CBE) (https://mcec.umaine.edu/biomed/) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) (https://mcec.umaine.edu/eleceng/). This is a full-time, 50/50 split appointment between the two departments, with the successful candidate expected to contribute to both programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We seek candidates with expertise in the design of analog circuits with biomedical applications, such as bioinstrumentation, microphysiological systems, or biomedical optics. These areas are critical for new medical innovations, including:  advanced imaging systems, smart wearable and implantable health monitoring devices, high precision surgical micro-tools, and drug discovery and delivery.  The Institute of Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering, the NIH-funded Center for Biomedical Research Excellence, and a T-32 graduate training grant at UMaine provide excellent transdisciplinary research opportunities.  Applications
